Eagle River Tire Removal
For decades, a large pile of discarded tires has been lodged in the Eagle River just downstream of Edwards — a legacy of a long-gone tire and mechanic shop. These tires don’t belong in our waterways. They can leach chemicals into the river, harm water quality, damage sensitive riparian areas, and threaten fish and wildlife.
Despite years of smaller cleanup efforts by community members, HOAs, and local partners, the problem has persisted. Now, the Eagle River Coalition is organizing a focused removal project to tackle it head-on.
Edwards Metro District is proud to contribute $2,500 to support this important effort.
“The Edwards Metro District is proud to partner with the Eagle River Coalition on the removal of the large pile of tires along the Eagle River,” said Director Kris Miller. “This grassroots, community-driven effort is a powerful example of what we can accomplish together to protect and preserve our local environment.”
How You Can Help
The Eagle River Coalition needs volunteers who are comfortable in and near the water, able to lift heavy objects, and willing to navigate uneven terrain. This is hands-on work that will make a lasting difference for our community and river health.
